NATO to start deploying its bases in Eastern Europe in September
15 May 2014, 14:00 -- The United States will consider the possibility of deployment of NATO military bases in Poland, and a decision on this issue can be made in September during the alliance summit in Wales, Stephen Mull the United States Ambassador to the Republic said .
'The US is aware of the Polish desire to deploy NATO military bases in the country, and I think it is crucial to consider this initiative,' he added.
'It's not just the United States but the entire alliance. This is an important topic for discussion, which will take place in the UK in September,' the diplomat said.
According to him, 'if Russia so radically changes the atmosphere of security in this part of Europe, it requires a certain response from NATO'.
Mull added that the US plans to keep additional forces that arrived in Poland in recent weeks at least until the end of the year.
In March, 12 US F-16 fighters and about 300 troops arrived in Poland for the exercises and 150 paratroopers came at the end of April.
