VARNA, Bulgaria (NNS) -- Guided-missile destroyer USS Truxtun (DDG 103) departed the Bulgarian port of Varna Sunday, March 16.

While in Varna, Truxtun hosted a planning conference with NATO allies to develop a future multilateral naval training event.

Truxtun also had the opportunity to host the commanding officer of Varna Naval Station, the city's mayor and servicemembers of the Bulgarian naval academy. Visitors to Truxtun enjoyed tours of the ship and participated in a variety of official functions, including formal dinners and a reception.

'Truxtun's visit to Varna follows a visit to Constanta, Romania and a series of highly successful exercises involving Truxtun and ships of the Romanian and Bulgarian navies,' said Truxtun's Commanding Officer Cmdr. Andrew Biehn. 'The goal of all of these interactions - regardless of the venue or uniform - is to reaffirm our dedication to regional stability and to our allies.'

Truxtun is a component of Carrier Strike Group 2, centered on USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77).
