IMMEDIATE RELEASE | January 14, 2014 |
Press Secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby provided the following readout:
Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel called Colombian Minister of Defense Juan Carlos Pinzón this evening to continue the strong defense cooperation between the United States and Colombia. During the call, Secretary Hagel affirmed the importance of the bilateral relationship and that the Department of Defense is committed to further strengthening the enduring partnership between the two countries.
In addition to Colombia's excellent progress in defense transformation and in consolidating gains in internal security, Secretary Hagel and Minister Pinzón also discussed opportunities for the United States and Colombia to continue close collaboration on various security issues, including in preparation for the 11th Conference of the Defense Ministers of the Americas to be held in Peru later this year.
Today's phone call followed a meeting between Secretary Hagel and Minister Pinzón in December 2013, which took place at the White House during Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos's visit to Washington.
