Iran-China navy cooperation will expand

Kuala Lumpur, Dec 10, IRNA -- Iran Navy Commander Rear-Admiral Habibollah Sayyari and commander of south Chinese naval fleet, Vui Shuiy, called for development of cooperation between the two forces in Indian Ocean.
The two commanders called for promoting ties between the two navies, exchange of students as well as cooperation in Indian Ocean to counter the pirates.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of Sea Security in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.
Stressing the need for promoting mutual cooperation to maintain regional sea security, Sayyari called for exchange of visits by the two countries Navy officials.
The two Navy commanders underscored exchange of fleets, cooperation in north Indian Ocean, the Gulf of Eden, security of the sensitive regions and confronting sea piracy.
Sayyari is currently on a visit to Jakarta at the head of high-ranking delegation to attend the International Meeting on Sea Security opened today (December 10).
As a special guest at the three-day meeting, he will deliver a lecture on Iran's viewpoints to establish security in Indian Ocean and confer with certain delegations from regional states.
Sayyari's participation is aimed at promoting navy cooperation with the major Indian Ocean coastal states such as India, Pakistan, South Africa, Indonesia and Malaysia and certain Far East countries including Japan and China.
