South Korea's expansion of ADIZ to not affect Taiwan: CAA
ROC Central News Agency
Taipei, Dec. 9 (CNA) South Korea's announcement on Sunday that it had expanded the country's air defense identification zone (ADIZ) will not affect civil aviation in Taiwan, the country's aviation regulator said Monday.
The new South Korean ADIZ will cover the same area as its flight information region (FIR) -- airspace within which flight information services and alerting services are provided -- according to Taiwan's Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA).
The new ADIZ designated by South Korea does not border Taiwan's FIR because the two are separated by the FIR controlled by Japan, the CAA said, stressing that the move will not affect Taiwan.
South Korea's decision followed China's announcement in late November of a new ADIZ that covers much of the East China Sea and extends to the disputed Diaoyutai Islands, which are controlled by Japan and claimed by Taiwan.
