Britain and Saudi Arabia have launched joint military drills, codenamed Red Crocodile 3, with the participation of their commando units.

On the first day of the drills on Monday, the British commandos and the Royal Saudi Land Forces exercised reconnaissance and raiding and ambushes using rugged environment techniques, Saudi Arabi state news agency SPA reported.

The training follows a joint three-day naval maneuver also codenamed Red Crocodile 3 earlier this month.

Over the course of the naval exercises carried out with the presence of three British Royal Navy ships, newly deployed to the Middle East, the two sides practiced maritime rapid reaction operations, the British Ministry of Defense announced at the time.

The ministry said the three British ships, HMS Bulwark, helicopter carrier HMS Illustrious and Type 23 frigate HMS Westminster, took part in the practice as part of their annual exercises with “partner nations” under the Cougar 13 deployment program.

The fleet was earlier deployed to the Mediterranean before moving to the Red Sea, the Persian Gulf and Horn of Africa region for the exercises.

Saudi Arabia has over the past days also led joint drills with the US forces and will later hold military exercises with French ground forces.
