Pentagon Press Secretary George Little provided the following readout:
Yesterday, after arriving in Brunei, Secretary Hagel met with Brunei's Minister of Energy, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin. Minister Yasmin is hosting the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting-Plus, attended by 18 Asia-Pacific nations. During their conversation, Secretary Hagel recognized Brunei's strong leadership as ASEAN chair and organizer of the June Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief and Military Medicine Exercise. Secretary Hagel noted the importance of the U.S. relationship with ASEAN and that the U.S. looks forward to building on the substantial progress already made together. Secretary Hagel and Minister Yasmin exchanged views on a wide range of subjects, and agreed on the importance of continuing bilateral dialogue and defense cooperation.
