Palestinians Cancel Peace Talks After Israeli Forces Kill Three
August 26, 2013
Media reports quoting Palestinian officials say the Palestinian leadership has canceled a round of peace talks with Israel scheduled for August 26.
The reported move comes after Israeli security forces on August 26 shot dead three Palestinians and injured dozens at a refugee camp north of Jerusalem.
The Israeli police say they entered the Qalandia camp to arrest a suspected militant and clashes broke out with a Palestinian crowd.
Palestinian officials say the Israelis used live ammunition.
Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said 1,500 Palestinians confronted Israeli security forces, throwing stones and firebombs.
Rosenfeld said three security force members were injured.
He did not confirm live ammunition was used and said the incident was under investigation.
Police spokeswoman Luba Samri said police used only "riot dispersal means" and could not confirm any fatalities.
