A top opposition leader in Egypt has strongly criticized President Mohammed Morsi for his failure to offer a detailed roadmap for national reconciliation.

In a statement on Thursday, Amr Moussa also took to task Morsi for his refusal to present a clear economic recovery plan.

Moussa, a former foreign minister, went on to say that the president should not blame the nation’s woes on the ongoing strikes and street protests.

“Furthermore, what does a strike by certain group, a gathering in a square, have to do with repairing hospitals or reforming the railways?” he asked.

Moussa’s remarks came after the Egyptian president warned in a televised speech late Wednesday that the ongoing unrest is “threatening to paralyze the country”

The president, however, admitted having made mistakes in the past.

“I was right in some cases, and wrong in other cases,” Morsi said. “I have discovered after a year in charge that for the revolution to achieve its goals, it needs radical measures.”

Opponents of Morsi are planning a massive demonstration early next week.

Supporters and opponents of the president have been clashing with each other during recent demonstrations across the North African country.

The opposition accuses the government of being dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood.

Morsi’s supporters, however, say the president is cleansing Egyptian institutions of corruption. They also believe that he needs time to put into practice the principles of the 2011 revolution.
