At least five people have been killed and several others severely injured in a strike by a US killer drone in Afghanistan’s western province of Farah.
The deadly attack took place in the volatile Balablook district in Farah Province on Tuesday.
Local Afghan officials said a Taliban commander and four members of his group were killed in the attack. However, the militant group has not commented on the deaths yet.
This comes after the US-led deadly airstrikes killed nearly ten people in volatile provinces of Logar and Kandahar.
US officials claim that the airstrikes target militants, but local sources say civilians have been the main victims of the attacks.
Many civilians have lost their lives in US-led strikes and operations in various parts of Afghanistan over the past decade, with Afghans becoming increasingly outraged at the seemingly endless number of the deadly assaults.
US drone strikes have escalated significantly over the past year, fueling anti-American sentiment in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia.
Civilian casualties caused by foreign forces have been a major source of tension between Kabul and Washington.
The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity remains high in the country.
