The police chief of Afghanistan’s volatile Helmand Province has survived a car bomb attack in the provincial capital city of Lashkar Gah, Press TV reports.

Officials say the attack was carried out early Monday, when a car bomber targeted a police convoy in Lashkar Gah.

Provincial spokesman Ummar Zawaq said Nabi Elham and three other police officers sustained injuries in the attack.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Afghan officials often blame the Taliban militant group for such deadly attacks on officials.

In May alone, at least 400 Afghan police and army personnel as well as 21 US-led soldiers were killed in attacks carried out by the militants in the country.

The Taliban said in April that it had begun its ‘spring offensive’ against the US-led foreign forces and Afghan troops in the country.

The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 as part of the so-called war on terror. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity remains across the country.
