Manila, June 6 (CNA) Taiwanese investigators arrived in Manila Thursday to share with the Philippine authorities results of their probe into the fatal shooting of a Taiwanese fisherman by Philippine coast guard personnel, as the two sides have concluded their respective investigations.

Taiwan's investigative group, led by Yang Wan-li, head prosecutor of the International and Cross-strait Department under Taiwan's Ministry of Justice, and Lin Yen-liang, head prosecutor from the Pingtung District Prosecutors' Office, arrived at the Philippines' National Bureau of Investigation around 2:30 p.m.

Officials at Manila International Airport said the team passed through a special customs passage to avoid media attention.

But both Taiwan's representative office in the Philippines and the Philippine authorities refused to comment further on information regarding the team's activities.

Filipino Secretary of Justice Leila de Lima told reporters Wednesday that investigators from both Taiwan and the Philippines will meet before they formally unveil the findings of their respective investigations into the death of the 65-year-old Hung Shih-cheng. She did not mention any specific dates.

Hung's fishing boat was sprayed with bullets by a Philippine patrol vessel on May 9 in overlapping waters of the two countries' exclusive economic zones.

Taiwanese and Philippine investigators have made exchange visits to collect evidence, under a bilateral legal assistance agreement signed in April.

Both sides have said they will release their respective findings by June 9, which happens to be one month after the shooting. The Taiwan team's visit to Manila is expected to help prevent a major divergence between the results produced by the two sides.
