NATO will send a team of experts to Libya to give technical advice to the Libyan military in terms of training as the North African country faces a flow of fighters from Mali.

According to a statement released by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen on Tuesday, the team "will go as soon as possible and, together with the Libyans, identify the areas in which the Libyans think they need advice and areas where we do believe we can add value."

The statement added that the move should not be considered as NATO deployment of troops in Libya.

"This is not about deploying troops to Libya. If we are to engage in training activities, such activities could take place outside Libya," the statement said.

This comes after Libya's Prime Minister Ali Zeidan said on May 27 that NATO would give his country technical advice in terms of training.

During a meeting with Rasmussen in Brussels, Zeidan said "NATO will give us technical advice in terms of training, we will have technical support and we will be helped in training if we need so."

After the French-led war in Mali, fighters have been pushed out of the African country trying to regroup in southern Libya.

France launched a war on the West African country on January 11 under the pretext of halting the advance of fighters who had taken control of the northern part of Mali.

The French-led war in Mali has caused a serious humanitarian crisis in the northern areas of the country and has displaced thousands of people, who now live in deplorable conditions.
