Unknown gunmen in Pakistan's northwestern tribal region have attacked a NATO oil tanker carrying fuel to US-led forces in Afghanistan, Press TV reports.

The attack was carried out near the town of Jamrud in Khyber Agency on Tuesday morning.

There have been no reports of casualties, while the attackers managed to escape the scene of the attack.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but the pro-Taliban militants were suspected of being behind it.

On April 14, unknown armed men opened fire on a NATO truck near the same area.

Driver of the lorry died on the spot and his helper sustained injures during the attack.

Militants in Pakistan have destroyed hundreds of oil tankers and containers carrying fuel and other supplies to foreign forces in Afghanistan.

Pakistan has experienced unrelenting violence since the country joined an alliance with the United States in Washington's so-called war on terror.

Thousands of people have subsequently lost their lives in bombings and other attacks. The violence has seen a sharp rise since late 2009.
