At least 11 people, including two children, have been killed and eight others have been injured in an airstrike carried out by US-led forces in eastern Afghanistan, Press TV reports.

The raid took place on Saturday near the city of Ghazni. Local officials said two women and another child were among those wounded in the attack.

Two of the wounded are reportedly in critical condition.

At least seven civilians were killed in similar airstrike last week in Afghanistan's Logar Province. Several others were injured in the US-led raid.

The rise in civilian casualties in NATO attacks has strained relations between Karzai and his Western allies, who are under increasing pressure at home over the unpopular war.

The US-led war in Afghanistan began in October 2001. While the offensive removed the Taliban from power insecurity continues to rise across the country despite the presence of about 100,000 foreign forces.

The United Nations announced in February 2012 that 2011 was the deadliest year on record for Afghan civilians. The death toll rose eight percent compared to the previous year and was roughly double the figure for 2007.
