Moldovan Government Resigns Amid Corruption Allegations

March 08, 2013

Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat’s government has resigned.

The move came after parliament dismissed on March 5 the country's pro-Western government led by Prime Minister Vlad Filat.

The opposition Communist Party called for the no-confidence vote amid allegations of corruption in the government.

Filat’s coalition government was abandoned by two of the parties ahead of the vote in parliamant.

President Nicolae Timofti now has to propose a new prime minister, who will attempt to form a government.

If this process fails three times in 45 days to produce a cabinet with majority support in parliament, then Timofti will dismiss parliament and call early parliamentary elections.
