US navy ship arrives in Pakistan for exercises

Islamabad, March 7, IRNA -- An American navy ship has arrived in Pakistan to take part in the ongoing military exercises in Karachi, the US embassy in Islamabad said.
USS William P Lawrence (DDG 110), a US Navy Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, has arrived in the waters off the port of Karachi to participate in AMAN-13, a multinational exercise being hosted by the Pakistan Navy that will continue till March 8.
The exercises licked off on Monday.
USS Willliam P Lawrence is a state-of-the-art naval vessel, one of the most advanced in the US fleet, capable of ensuring the free passage of the seas for all nations, a US embassy statement said.
The United States is one of the 13 countries with ships actively participating in AMAN-13, whose objective is to promote peace and stability in the region and enhance interoperability among the partner naval forces.
Twenty other nations are also sending observers to the exercise.
