NORFOLK (NNS) -- Capt. John V. Fuller, commander, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 22, relieved Cmdr. Corey D. Wofford, commanding officer of the Norfolk Naval Station-based USS Kauffman (FFG 59), Feb. 15, due to loss of confidence in Wofford's ability to command.
Fuller lost confidence in Wofford due to his poor performance including his failure to establish a culture of procedural compliance within the command, and his inability to correct identified deficiencies as directed. Ultimately, this led Fuller to lose confidence in Wofford's leadership and competence as commanding officer.
Kauffman is now commanded by Cmdr. Jennifer Couture, the former executive officer of USS Porter (DDG 78), who will serve as a permanent relief. Kauffman is currently in port Naval Station Norfolk.
Wofford has been reassigned to the staff of Naval Surface Force Atlantic.
