MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (NNS) -- NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support (WSS) recently awarded a 5-year follow-on Performance Based Logistics (PBL) contract, November 28, 2012 to Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems based out of Sudbury, MA.

The five-year, firm, fixed-price contract is valued at $75.7 million. The PBL contract provides supply support for 352 line items in support of the MK 99 Fire Control System and SPY Transmitter Group, both of which are part of the AEGIS Weapon System, the world's most capable naval defense system. The AEGIS Weapon System is installed onboard the Navy's Guided Missile Cruisers and Destroyers.

Raytheon has supported the MK 99 Fire Control System and SPY Transmitter Group via PBL for more than a decade. This is the third iteration of the PBL. This PBL with Raytheon has historically produced solid levels of material availability, hovering between 85 and 90 percent.

"The MK 99 PBL with Raytheon has been a high performing PBL that has provided a superior level of material availability and support to the fleet," said NAVSUP WSS Director of Maritime Operations, Capt. Ray Bichard. "The renewal PBL is expected to continue this high-level of supply support."

"This contract award demonstrates NAVSUP WSS' commitment to renewing PBL contracts where the contractor's performance improves material availability and maritime readiness while delivering cost savings to the Fleet," added NAVSUP WSS Director of Contracts, Capt. Chris Mosher.

"The MK 99 PBL contract with Raytheon is a proven winner. It has steadily improved Fleet readiness since its inception. The renewal contract captures the benefits garnered during the previous PBL contracts and is a great example of a well-structured and effective PBL contract," Mosher continued.

In addition, the NAVSUP WSS MK 99 PBL contract renewal is significant in that it directly supports the Navy's Ballistic Missile Defense System.

A field activity of the Naval Supply Systems Command, NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support is the U.S. Navy's supply chain manager providing worldwide support to the aviation, surface ship, and submarine communities. Formerly known as the Naval Inventory Control Point (NAVICP), NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support provides Navy, Marine Corps, joint and allied forces with products and services that deliver combat capability through logistics.
