SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Cmdr. Jonathan B. Baron relieved Cmdr. Robert R. Kenyon as Commanding Officer, Helicopter Maritime Strike Weapons School, U.S. Pacific Fleet (HSMWSP) in a ceremony held Nov 29. at Naval Air Station (NAS) North Island.
Helicopter Maritime Strike Weapons School Pacific delivers training, evaluation and support to U.S. Pacific Fleet's Helicopter Maritime Strike (HSM) and Helicopter Anti-Submarine Light (HSL) squadrons to ensure they deploy ready to fight anytime, anywhere.
A recognized expert throughout the Pacific Fleet HSM Community, Cmdr. Kenyon enjoyed incredible success as the Weapons School CO. He directed the execution of ten HSM Advanced Readiness Program (HARP) exercises and ensured the combat readiness of over 500 SH-60B and MH-60R pilots and aircrew. He spearheaded the HSM community's continued integration into the Carrier Airwing (CVW), designing and implementing the first ever CVW specific HARP. For his next assignment, Cmdr. Kenyon will report to Commander, Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Center.
Cmdr. Baron was born in Manila, Republic of the Philippines. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1993 with a Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture. Baron was designated a Naval Aviator in 1995. His first operational assignment was with the Swamp Foxes of HSL-44 from 1996 to 2000. Following his department head tour, he reported to NATO's Joint Warfare Center, Stavanger Norway in 2007. As the Officer in Charge Core Staff Training Team, for the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), He prepared teams for deployment and evaluated their performance in Afghanistan . He returned the Seahawks of HSM-41 where he trained to fly the MH-60R Seahawk in 2010.
