PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Pacific completed renovations in early October on the Bangkok Organized Crime Task Force building for the Royal Thai Police in Bangkok, Thailand, that will enhance the country's organized-crime prevention efforts in Southeast Asia.

"Our team of engineers and construction contractors renovated this two-story building and transformed it into a new facility for the Royal Thai Police," said Jessada Pommekee, NAVFAC Pacific, Site Thailand project engineer.

"The new building will not only support the mission of the Joint Inter-Agency Task Force West, but it will enable efforts to protect national security interests, and promote regional stability."

Major renovations on the 90-year-old building included replacing the roof and ceilings, repairing moisture damage, cosmetic repairs, replacing doors and windows, refurbishing two existing sliding doors, replacing electrical and air-conditioning system, replacing the water supply and drain system, refurbishing the wood floors and restrooms, adding secured storage rooms, furnishing and installing monitors and furniture in the operations, conference and interview rooms and correcting the drainage problem around the building.

Site Thailand is among several locations supported by the NAVFAC Pacific Contingency Engineering Business Line (CEBL). NAVFAC Pacific CEBL operates forward providing acquisition, engineering and construction support throughout Southeast Asia and the Pacific with headquarters at Pearl Harbor and site offices in Bangkok, Thailand; Manila, Philippines; and a forward operating presence in Jakarta, Indonesia.

"We deliver contingency engineering, contract support, natural disaster response, crisis planning, and program management to many U.S. allies located in extremely remote locations," said Cary Watanabe, NAVFAC Pacific CEBL deputy manager.

"While this can add extra logistical challenges to our jobs, it's also very rewarding to see a project reach completion."
