Tehran, Oct 31, IRNA -- Iran’s border guard rejected claims made by its Azeri counterpart on recent illegal entry of an armed group to Azerbaijan’s territories via Iranian borders.
On November 26, the Azeri border guards claimed that an armed group has illegally entered Azeri territories through Iran-Azerbaijan joint border lines, the Information website of Iran’s border guard reported on Wednesday.
The Azeri guards claimed that a member of the armed group was arrested during a clash between the two sides. The arrested man who was injured, died in an Azeri hospital after three days.
Meanwhile, in a statement a copy of which was available to IRNA, the Iranian border police said Iranian and Azeri border guards have made a joint visit of the site of the clash to examine the situation.
The Iranian border guard said they have later realized that the dead person was a resident of Parsabad district in Iran’s western province of Ardebil who had no criminal record and was on a visit to Azerbaijan to meet his relatives in that country.
“Iran expects Azerbaijan to act in a reasonable way and consider the good-neighboring policy,” said the statement.
It also urged the Azeri side to respect previously inked bilateral agreements and share their information regarding the case for further legal measures.
