One Palestinian Killed in Israeli Airstrike on Gaza Strip

RIA Novosti

07:23 28/10/2012 MOSCOW, October 28 (RIA Novosti) - An Israeli airstrike on the south of the Gaza Strip has left at least one Palestinian dead and another wounded, Iranian state-owned news network Press TV reported on Sunday.

An Israeli drone fired missiles at targets in the town of Rafah early on Sunday, it said, which resulted in one man’s death and another’s injury.

According to the CNN, both people belonged to Hamas’ Izzedine al Qassam brigade, which earlier fired mortars into Israel. The airstrike reportedly followed an Israeli incursion into Palestinian territory.

The incident follows a relative period of calm after a Palestinian official said on Thursday that Palestinian Hamas and Israel reached a ceasefire agreement following three days of violence in and around the Gaza Strip. The ceasefire between Hamas and Israel was brokered by Egypt, he added.

Gaza has been blockaded since 2007, which has caused a decline in the living standard, unemployment, and poverty.
