From Naval Education and Training Command

PENSACOLA, Fla. (NNS) -- The commanding officer of Training Support Center San Diego was relieved of command Sept. 21 by Commander, Naval Education and Training Command.

Capt. Antonio Cardoso, commanding officer of TSC San Diego, was relieved by Rear Adm. Don Quinn, the NETC Commander, due to a loss of confidence in Cardoso's ability to command.

The relief occurred as a result of an investigation into allegations of inappropriate actions during the administration of Non-Judicial Punishment or Captain's Mast. The investigation centered on personnel appearing for Non-Judicial Punishment, or Captain's Mast, being required to wear seabags on their backs for extended periods of time. The actions were investigated and confirmed as violations of the Navy's policy on hazing. Cardoso, who took command of the center February 2011, has been temporarily assigned to administrative duties at Navy Region Southwest headquarters.

Cmdr. Jon Grant, the former executive officer of TSC San Diego has assumed command until a permanent replacement is named.

TSC San Diego, aboard Naval Station San Diego, provides centralized student management and support for 15 independent learning sites within the San Diego region. The command supports both surface Navy and aviation schools and averages a throughput of over 60,000 students per year.
