Family Members of Karzai’s Advisor Killed in Afghanistan
18:52 20/08/2012 MOSCOW, August 20 (RIA Novosti) - A roadside bomb blast in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Paktia on Monday killed three members of the family of an advisor to Afghan President Hamid Karzai, local media reported.
“Brother of Amanullah Khan Zadran, his uncle and his nephew were killed in the blast,” provincial governor’s spokesman, Rohullah Samoon, said.
According to Khaama Press online newspaper, Amanullah Khan Zadran was not injured in the blast that struck his vehicle convoy near the village of Miland early on Monday.
It is the second attempt on Zadran’s life this year. The previous bomb attack on the advisor was prevented by Afghan security forces.
Despite more than a decade of war waged by a U.S.-led international coalition against the Taliban insurgency, attacks by Islamist militants are still frequent in Afghanistan, raising serious concerns about the ability of Afghan security forces to maintain order in the country after foreign troops withdraw in 2014.
