SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded a $15.22 million task order Aug. 13 to T.B. Penick & Sons Inc. of San Diego to design and construct a multiuse operational fitness area at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) Twentynine Palms.
"This project is to be an accompanying piece to the existing parade field and will serve as a centerpiece for the base," said Antonio Lopez, NAVFAC Southwest project manager for the project. "Included in this park will be sports fields and a stage that can be used to house open air concerts and events at the base. Also included under this project will be a running track along Del Valle and a new administrative building."
The project will include an outdoor recreational center, recreational ground and administrative facility with storage and restroom areas, and fitness track with work-out stations.
A planned modification in the task order will bring the total award to $15.27 million. The planned modification will include furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
"Overall this project will significantly increase the quality of life at MCAGCC Twentynine Palms and will offer a striking centerpiece for the base," said Lopez.
NAVFAC Southwest is the contracting activity. The project is scheduled for completion by fall 2014.
