Tehran, Aug 9, IRNA -- The US Navy announced that it has rescued 10 sailors alleged to be Iranians from a boat in the Sea of Oman while it caught fire.
Spokesman for the US Navy’s Bahrain-based Fifth Fleet, Greg Raelson, said that the Iranian seamen were rescued by the USS James E. Williams on Wednesday.
“The sailors were rescued from a traditional wooden boat flying an Iranian flag and transported aboard the U.S. vessel where they received medical treatment and are awaiting transport to aircraft carrier USS Enterprise which is coordinating repatriation efforts,” Raelson added.
The US Navy had rescued 13 other Iranian sailors in January. The Iranian sailors had been attacked by Somali pirates in their fishing boat.
