Afghan Special Ops Unit Captures Explosives Expert
From an International Security Assistance Force Joint Command News Release
KABUL, Afghanistan, July 26, 2012 – An Afghan special operations unit, supported by coalition troops, arrested a Haqqani network explosives expert in the Khost district of Afghanistan’s Khost province today, military officials reported.
The explosives expert conducted bomb attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout the province. He also trained insurgents how to make and use bombs, and was building several bombs when he was arrested, officials said.
The security force also detained several suspected insurgents in the operation.
In other Afghanistan operations today:
-- In Kandahar province’s Shah Wali Kot district, an Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban weapons dealer and detained several suspected insurgents.
-- An Afghan-led security force, supported by coalition troops, detained several suspected insurgents during an operation to arrest a Taliban explosives specialist in Kandahar’s Kandahar district.
-- In Khost province’s Sabari district, an Afghan and coalition security force detained a suspected insurgent and seized several grenades during an operation to arrest a Haqqani network leader who is responsible for planning several insurgent attacks insurgents in recent weeks and provides support to the network’s district leader.
