Combined Force Detains Several Suspected Insurgents

WASHINGTON, July 19, 2012 – An Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents during an operation to detain a Taliban leader in the Andar district of Afghanistan’s Ghazni province today, military officials reported.
The sought-after leader controls several insurgents and directs improvised explosive device attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout the district, officials said.
In other operations today:
-- International Security Assistance Force officials confirmed that none of the 24 civilian fuel trucks destroyed July 18 in a parking area in the Khuram wa Sar Bagh district of Samangan province had been contracted by ISAF. The trucks were destroyed by a fire that was ignited when one of trucks was intentionally blown up. The incident is being investigated by the Afghan National Police.
-- In the Nawah-ye Barakzai district of Helmand province, a combined force detained several suspects during a search for a Taliban leader. The insurgent leader acquires explosives and weapons for insurgents and directs attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.
In July 18 operations:
-- A combined force killed two insurgents in Ghazni province’s Rashidan district.
-- A combined force killed two insurgents in Ghazni province’s Ajristan district.
-- A coalition airstrike killed an insurgent in Kapisa province’s Tagab district.
-- A coalition airstrike killed an insurgent in Kunar province’s Watahpur district.
-- A combined force found and cleared an IED in Paktika province’s Yahya Khel district.
-- A combined force operating in Paktika province detained six suspects in the Orgun district.
-- A combined force found and cleared an IED in Paktiya province’s Zurmat district.
