SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded Pave-Tech Inc. of Carlsbad, Calif., an $8.3 million construction contract July 12 for the design and construction of an aviation pavement project at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Camp Pendleton.
"It is a unique opportunity to support the first new type of aircraft at MCAS Pendleton since the H-46 that was introduced in 1998," said Daniel Tokatlian, NAVFAC Southwest project manager for this project.
Pave-Tech Inc. will design, construct, and rehabilitate aircraft pavement to accommodate MV-22 squadrons.
"MCAS Camp Pendleton requires airfield pavement to accommodate two new MV-22 aircraft squadrons, 24 aircraft," said Tokatlian. "This project will help them support that requirement."
Work is expected to be completed by spring 2014. NAVFAC Southwest is the contracting activity.
