SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- The executive officer of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 71, was relieved Sunday, July 15, aboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74), due to misconduct.
Cmdr. Alan C. Aber was relieved as a result of an investigation that confirmed his failure to obey a lawful regulation by violating the Navy's Policy on Sexual Harassment. At Admiral's Mast on Sunday, July 15, Commander, Carrier Strike Group 3, Rear Adm. Charles M. Gaouette found Aber guilty of violating UCMJ Article 92, failure to obey a lawful general order.
Aber was scheduled to take command of the squadron later this year. He has been assigned to the staff of Helicopter Maritime Strike Wing Pacific pending further reassignment.
Aber's replacement has not yet been named.
HSM-71 is assigned to Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9 and embarked on USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) for routine training operations. The squadron is based at Naval Air Station (NAS) North Island in San Diego.
