Taliban Kill Mayor of Shindand
12:18 14/07/2012 MOSCOW, July 14 (RIA Novosti) - Taliban fighters shot dead the mayor of the Afghan city of Shindand on Friday, Pazhwok news agency reported.
Mayor Abdul Salam Rakhimi was at a meeting after Friday prayers with local market traders in Shindand in the country's western Herat region when he was shot by assassins on a motorcycle, according to the press secretary of the security forces in Herat.
Rakhimi, who was one of many seriously injured in a hail of gunfire, died on the way to hospital.
