OKINAWA, Japan (NNS) -- Seabees of U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 40 completed the Fleet Industrial Supply Center (FISC) warehouse at Commander, Fleet Activities, Okinawa, White Beach June 28, in support of U.S. 7th Fleet operations throughout the U.S. Pacific Command area of responsibility.
The 207 square meter storage facility consists of a general storage area, a climate controlled freezer, and a second deck office space. It is the second of three facilities being built by U.S. Navy Seabees.
"There was a lot of troubleshooting of the electrical system, which resulted in a lot of good training for the younger troops," said project supervisor, Construction Electrician 1st Class Scott Jones. It is a great feeling to see a young crew troubleshoot the electrical system for an entire building."
As NMCB 40 turns over the mission to NMCB 74, the Battalion's personnel will pass on their lessons learned to their Seabee counterparts. Using the brand new warehouse as an example, NMCB 74 is scheduled to begin construction on the third and final warehouse for FISC at White Beach right beside NMCB 40's completed facility.
NMCB 40 is the Naval Construction Force's 2011 Pacific Fleet Battle "E" and Peltier Award winning Seabee Battalion. The battalion is deployed throughout the U.S. Pacific Command in November 2011, and is scheduled to return to Port Hueneme, Calif. in the summer of 2012. "Fighting 40" deployment locations include Okinawa, Sasebo, and Yokosuka, Japan, Guam, Korea, the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, Timor Leste, Diego Garcia, and Palau.
