KARLSKRONA, Sweden (NNS) -- Guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60) anchored outside of Karlskrona, Sweden, for a scheduled port visit, June 20.

While in port, the officers and crew hosted Rear Adm. Jan Thörnovist, chief of staff of the royal Swedish navy, and other Swedish guests for a tour of the ship.

Capt. Kevin Hill, commanding officer Normandy, presented a plaque to Rear Adm. Thörnovist, who welcomed the Normandy crew to his home country.

"We are very excited to have you here with us, and thank you again for the tour of your wonderful ship," said Thörnovist. "I hope that you and your crew enjoy our beautiful city."

While in port, the crew will participate in a golf tournament, tour Karlskrona's naval museum, and attend the midsummer's eve celebration, an annual festival celebrating summer solstice.

Normandy, homeported out of Norfolk, Va., is on a scheduled deployment in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility.
