Readout of Secretary Panetta’s Phone Call with Japan’s Defense Minister Morimoto
Pentagon spokesman Navy Capt. John Kirby provided the following readout:
“Secretary Leon Panetta spoke by phone with Japan Defense Minister Satoshi Morimoto June 13 to congratulate him on his new position.
“Secretary Panetta reaffirmed that the U.S.-Japan Alliance remains the cornerstone of peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region. The two discussed their shared commitment to implementing the April 2012 joint agreement on the realignment of U.S. forces in Japan. The secretary expressed that he looks forward to working with Minister Morimoto to continue to enhance cooperation between the two allies and to modernize and update the alliance.”
