U.S. drone kills 10 people in NW Pakistan

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

ISLAMABAD, May 24,IRNA -- A U.S. spy aircraft fired missiles on a house in Pakistan’s North Wazitistan tribal region early Thursday and killed at least 10 people, residents said.

American drone fired two missiles on a house in Mir Ali area, destroying the building, they said.

The attack also caused damage to a nearby mosque, tribesmen said.

Residents said the members of the local Taliban group took away bodies from the site.

Some security sources claimed that those killed in the strike belonged to Turkmenistan and had recently moved to Mir Ali.

This is the second U.S. drone strike over the last two days.

On Wednesday, in a pre-dawn U.S. strike on a house killed four people near Minshah, center of North Waziristan.

Despite the repeated calls by the Pakistani government to halt the drone strikes in its territory, the United States has never stopped such attacks in Pakistan's northwest tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.

At least 103 people have been killed in U.S. strikes this year.

U.S. officials claim that militants use Waziristan region as their main launching pad for cross border attacks into Afghanistan.

Pakistan and tribesmen insist that innocent people are also killed in the attacks.

Amnesty International in a new report described as illegal the U.S. strikes in Pakistan.
