Islamabad, May 23, IRNA -- At least five people were killed and several others injured when a U.S. spy aircraft fired missiles on a house in Pakistan’s North Waziristan tribal area early Wednesday, local media reported.
Quoting sources TVs channel reported that the unmanned plane fired two missiles on a house in marketplace in Miranshah, the center of North Waziristan.
There was no immediate information about the identity of those killed in the strike.
It is the first drone strike in Pakistan tribal region, bordering Afghanistan, after the Chicago conference.
President Asif Ali Zardari, who attended the May 20-21 summit, called for a halt to the American drone strikes.
Pakistan’s Parliament last month passed a resolution which demanded US to stop drone strikes inside its territory as it is violation of International law.
The U.S. has rejected calls from Pakistan and insists that drone strikes are effective against the militants, blamed for cross-border attacks into Afghanistan.
A fresh demand from chief of the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto, urged the US to stop drone attacks inside Pakistani territory, saying they were illegal and violated international law, and also the US’ war powers act.
“The continuing unilateral US drone attacks on Pakistani soil are a constant irritant to Pakistani public opinion – both as a clear violation of our sovereignty and the toll of collateral damage to innocent victims,” he told a large gathering of PPP workers and supporters at a dinner hosted by his party in New York.
