Press Secretary George Little provided the following readout:
“Secretary Panetta held a meeting this afternoon at the NATO Summit in Chicago with senior ministers from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The secretary expressed his deep appreciation for their support of the Northern Distribution Network, which is key to supplying ISAF forces in Afghanistan.
“Secretary Panetta also provided assurances that the United States is committed to an enduring security relationship, including after 2014, with Afghanistan and the region to ensure that Afghanistan never again becomes a safe haven for terrorists. The secretary and his counterparts also raised the need to cooperate further on economic development in Afghanistan and the Central Asian region.”
