NAVFAC Southwest Awards $7.3 Million Contract to Renovate Monterey BEQ

SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded Bilbro Construction Co. Inc. of Escondido, Calif. a $7.3 million contract April 30 for a design-build renovation of Watkins Hall bachelor enlisted quarters (BEQ) located at Naval Support Activity Monterey.
Bilbro Construction Co. Inc. will replace mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems. Mechanical repairs will include removal of an existing heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system, chilled water, and pneumatic control systems. An efficient HVAC system, efficient chilled water system, and direct digital controls systems will be installed. Plumbing repairs will include replacement of existing domestic hot water tank and heat exchanger unit pump, and connecting the HVAC pneumatic control system to the compressed air piping system.
Bilbro Construction Co. Inc. will also provide a drain and upgrades for existing emergency shower eyewash units to meet current safety standards. Electrical repairs will include evaluating the existing electrical power distribution, lighting, and upgrades to meet the current standards in electrical energy codes.
"Coordination with the end user and stakeholders are the key to a successful renovation," said Meryll Gonzalez, NAVFAC Southwest project manager for this project.
NAVFAC Southwest is the contracting activity. Work will be performed in Monterey, Calif., and is expected to be completed by November 2013.
