SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded a $99 million contract April 30 to five contractors for construction and renovation of various waterfront facilities at locations within the NAVFAC Southwest area of responsibility (AOR).
Marathon Construction Corporation of Lakeside, Calif., Nova R M F of Napa, Calif., Reyes Construction Inc. of Pomona, Calif., R.E. Staite Engineering Inc. of San Diego, and Manson Construction Co. of Seattle were each awarded a multiple award construction contract (MACC) to renovate Navy waterfront facilities at various locations within the NAVFAC Southwest area of responsibility (AOR).
The contract was competitively bid through Navy Electronic Commerce Online (NECO) website. The five contractors will compete for task orders under the terms and conditions of the awarded contract.
"We have waited 3 1/2 years to have a waterfront construction contract in place," said Alberto S Sanchez, NAVFAC Southwest waterfront engineer. "The award of the waterfront MACC means that the Navy will have access to some of the best waterfront contractors on the West Coast."
Contractors will perform work consisting of design-build or fully designed projects for new construction, repair, alteration, renovation, dredging and disposal, demolition, and construction related operations in and above the water of waterfront facilities.
"These contractors will be available to respond to both long-planned new infrastructure projects as well as helping with emerging issues that arise due to constant use of our waterfront facilities," said Sanchez.
The majority of the work will involve dredging, marine pile driving, fender system replacement, marine concrete repairs, pier utilities repair and replacement, and small marine construction projects such as boat ramps and platforms. Projects will also include the design and construction of all utilities and other facilities in the waterfront area related to waterfront operations that support Navy vessels and port operations.
"I look forward to working with these professionals in the years forward as we take care of our assets at Naval Base San Diego, Naval Base Point Loma, Naval Base Coronado, Naval Base Ventura County, and Seal Beach," said Sanchez.
Work is scheduled for completion by April 2015.
