Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs George Little provided the following readout:
“Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta met with Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba at the Pentagon today. The two leaders discussed a wide range of defense and security issues including North Korea's announced plan to conduct a missile launch in mid-April, and bilateral discussions on the realignment of U.S. forces on Okinawa.
“Secretary Panetta and Minister Gemba reaffirmed the importance of the U.S.-Japan Alliance in defense of Japan and in contributing to regional peace and security. Both leaders agreed to continue close contact in the future.”
