Afghan-Pakistani Border Attack Leaves More Than Dozen Dead

April 02, 2012

The Pakistani military says at least four soldiers have been killed in an attack on security posts by dozens of suspected Taliban militants in Pakistan's northwest, near the Afghan border.

A spokesman for the paramilitary Frontiers Corps said the overnight attack occurred in the Mohmand tribal area.

Officials said soldiers responded with artillery and heavy weapons, killing up to 15 militants.

The information could not be independently confirmed.

The attackers are reported to have crossed into Pakistan from Afghanistan.

Mohmand is one of seven districts in Pakistan's semi-autonomous tribal belt which is known as a stronghold of Taliban and Al-Qaeda-linked militants.
