VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (NNS) -- Commander, Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group relieved the command master chief Feb. 28.
Command Master Chief Richard Ward was relieved by Rear Adm. Mark Belton, commander, Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group, at Cheatham Annex, Va., due to misconduct he committed while assigned as the command master chief of Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group.
Ward received non-judicial punishment (NJP) for the offenses he committed.
During NJP, Ward was found to have committed fraternization, willfully disobeyed a commissioned officer, misused a government cell phone, and made a false official statement. The NJP was in response to an investigation into allegations of fraternization that were reported by a member of the command in January. Ward has been temporarily reassigned to the staff of Navy Expeditionary Combat Command.
Senior Chief Engineman Anthony McDuffie, assigned to NAVELSG, will assume the duties of the command master chief. McDuffie is familiar with the current operations of NAVELSG as well as the needs of the command and its Sailors.
