DOD Announces Recruiting and Retention Numbers for Fiscal 2012, Through January

The Department of Defense announced today recruiting and retention statistics for the active and reserve components for fiscal 2012, through January.

Active Component.

    Recruiting. All four active services met or exceeded their numerical accession goals for fiscal 2012, through January.

  • Army – 17,123 accessions, with a goal of 17,050; 100 percent
  • Navy – 9,289 accessions, with a goal of 9,289; 100 percent
  • Marine Corps – 7,795 accessions, with a goal of 7,777; 100 percent
  • Air Force – 10,207 accessions, with a goal of 10,207; 100 percent
  • Retention. The Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force all exhibited strong retention through the fourth month of fiscal 2012.

Reserve Component.

    Recruiting. Four of the six reserve components met or exceeded their numerical accession goals for fiscal 2012, through January.

  • Army National Guard – 15,548 accessions, with a goal of 16,596; 94 percent
  • Army Reserve – 9,865 accessions, with a goal of 8,624; 114 percent
  • Navy Reserve – 2,427 accessions, with a goal of 2,427; 100 percent
  • Marine Corps Reserve – 3,149 accessions, with a goal of 2,880; 109 percent
  • Air National Guard – 2,591 accessions, with a goal of 2,671; 97 percent
  • Air Force Reserve – 2,854 accessions, with a goal of 2,854; 100 percent
  • Attrition – All reserve components are on target to achieve their fiscal year attrition goals.
