Yemen Swears In Saleh's Presidential Successor
February 25, 2012
Yemen's new president, Abed Rabo Mansour Hadi, has taken the oath of office before the country's parliament.
He replaces Ali Abdullah Saleh, who ruled the country for 33 years before leaving office in a power-transfer deal aimed at ending more than a year of political turmoil sparked by the so-called Arab Spring uprisings.
Hadi, who was Saleh's vice president, was formally inaugurated following a single-candidate presidential election earlier in the week.
Coinciding with the inauguration, Saleh returned to Yemen after having received medical treatment in the United States.
In exchange for stepping down, he is to receive immunity from prosecution.
