Tehran is Ready to Resume Diplomatic Relations with Egypt

RIA Novosti

23:27 18/02/2012 CAIRO, February 18 (RIA Novosti) - Tehran is ready to resume diplomatic relations with Egypt within a day, the Egyptian media said on Saturday quoting Head of Iran's Interests Office in Egypt Mojtaba Aman.

“Iran is ready to resume diplomatic relations within a day as soon as Egypt agrees to resume it," Iranian representative said.

Tehran understands that Egypt has a lot of internal problems at the moment and it will take "some time” to make a final decision.

The relations between the two countries were broken following the signing by Egypt in 1978 the peace treaty with Israel. Since then diplomatic relations in two countries have been represented by special offices that protect the interests of their citizens. After the Egyptian revolution in February 2011 Tehran insists on resuming diplomatic relations in full and its efforts has been particularly targeted since the legalization of Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and the victory of Islamists in the election to the National Assembly, lower house of the Egyptian parliament, in January.

Aman promised that after resuming diplomatic relations “Iran will immediately render economic assistance to Egypt for Cairo could withstand the pressure from the United States.” “Iran's wish to help Egypt is due not only threats from America, but mainly because of brother attitude of Iranians to Egyptians,” he explained.

Iran is ready to support Egypt also the other way. As soon as diplomatic relations are resumed Iran is ready to send to Egypt 5,000 tourists every day, and the Iranians will not pay any attention to “some problems with security”. “Iranians are accustomed to travel in difficult conditions and easily travel to such places as Iraq,” Aman said.
