IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Berlin, Feb 10, IRNA -- Germany's special envoy on Afghanistan and Pakistan, Michael Steiner resigned on Friday, less than two years after taking up the post.
It was unclear what triggered Steiner's decision to step down.
Meanwhile, the German foreign ministry has also refused to comment on the reasons for the high-level change.
'A top foreign policy advisor under then-chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, the 62-year-old Steiner will be replaced by German ambassador to Pakistan, Michael Koch 'within the next few weeks,' according to press reports.
In the past, Koch headed also the Afghanistan department at the German Foreign Ministry.
