Russia Sells India More Fighter Jets
December 16, 2011
Russia has signed a deal to provide India with 42 fighter jets.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said in Moscow on December 16 that the Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jets will be assembled in India, and will be fitted with locally produced electronics.
India had previously signed several contracts for the delivery of 230 Su-30MKIs, most of which are also being assembled locally.
Indian and Russian officials, however, failed to sign a long expected deal to complete the Koodankulam nuclear plant in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.
Singh, who is in Russia for a three-day visit focusing on military and economic cooperation between the two countries, also held talks on December 16 with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
