MANAMA, Bahrain (NNS) -- The commander of Patrol and Reconnaissance Group visited Patrol Squadron (VP) 10 in Manama, Bahrain, Nov. 11.

Read Adm. Michael W. Hewitt served both his first tour and department head tour with the Red Lancers of VP-10, and visited his former squadron to congratulate the crew on their successful completion of more than 6,200 mission hours while deployed in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.

"The Red Lancers are completing a very successful deployment to the U.S. 5th Fleet AOR and I always enjoy having the opportunity to visit the men and women of our MPRF while they are operating forward in support of our combatant commanders," said Hewitt.

He discussed issues important to the crew, including enlisted retention boards (ERB) and the services provided to those Sailors who are not retained, future deployment sites and P-3 positioning in support of the fleet.

"Not only has VP-10 safely met every operational objective, they have made lasting improvements to the squadron infrastructure in Bahrain," said Hewitt.

VP-10 is conducting maritime surveillance and reconnaissance while deployed in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
