Carrier Strike Group 1 Conducts Change of Command

San Diego (NNS) -- Carrier Strike Group 1 (CSG-1) held a change of command ceremony on board USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) Nov. 18.
Rear Adm. Thomas K. Shannon relieved Rear Adm. Samuel Perez as commander, CSG-1.
CSG-1 was formally established Oct. 1, 2009, and is comprised of Carl Vinson, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 17, USS Bunker Hill (CG 52), USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN (CG 57) and Destroyer Squadron One.
Perez led the strike group through a successful deployment conducting operations supporting maritime theater security operations for Operations Enduring Freedom and New Dawn.
Shannon's previous position was deputy chief of staff for Operations, Training and Readiness, Commander, Pacific Fleet.
